It’s about accomplishing goals you never thought you could. It’s about respecting your body and mind. It’s about connecting to your inner-strength – what we refer to as “Ki”. The Kuk Sool Won Community seeks to support individuals on their path toward personal growth. Many think Martial Arts is only about learning how to fight…and defend yourself…but, the truth is, It’s So Much More…It’s really a way to improve your life!

Kuk Sool Won™ Traditional Family Martial Arts covers an extensive variety of martial art techniques. However we are not merely concerned with methods of attack and defense. Kuk Sool Won™ also includes the study of healing techniques and the development of internal power, in addition to the physical training. Mental development is of equal importance in Kuk Sool Won™ and helps to harness self-confidence and self-discipline, a calm self-assurance, and the psychological and spiritual values which are traditionally associated with the character of a martial artist.

It takes 12 years, a ton of commitment, and love to become a specialist, in anything it seems. Like many people, self-defense was my initial motivation to begin training in martial arts back in 2003. After several years, it was time to test for my 1st Degree Black Belt in Kuk Sool Won(TM) Family Martial Arts. I thought about it for months…why??? Why do I need the symbol when I have the information?

Any sport or form of exercise comes with a risk of injury. However, there are a few things that make our program very safe. It’s because of these few things that we barely see any injuries with our program.

  • Stretching: At the beginning of every class we go through a series of stretches. These stretches get your muscles and joints ready and warmed up for exercise.
  • Supervision: Every class is supervised by trained, licensed professionals. We watch carefully to make sure no student is doing anything in a dangerous or unsafe way.

In short, we place a tremendous amount of focus on fun and safety. It’s because of this that we feel confident telling you that while there is risk for injury with our program – it’s a very small risk.

People come to us of all fitness levels. We get natural-born athletes, and we get people who have a harder time with athletic endeavors. However, everyone gets the same focus and attention.

If you’re not in great shape, don’t worry. Go at your own pace, and we’ll do everything we can to help you learn each and every technique. Soon enough, your physical fitness will improve, and you’ll be in better shape than ever!

No! Because self-defense technique is taught in martial arts, it’s often thought of as violent. However, the philosophies behind martial arts revolve around peace and harmony. The moves are more of a way to become connected with your body. We teach diplomacy and friendship. However, if a violent situation ever arises in your life, you’ll have powerful tools to defend yourself and your loved ones.

Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren’t violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Kids with behavior problems often become very respectful a calm.
Our program is extremely safe. We have measures upon measures in place to insure that your child will stay safe, and have a great time. From stretching to warm ups to very close supervision – we’ve got your child covered. Injuries do happen sometimes – but they’re quite rare.
Yes! In fact, martial arts is kind of a beacon of light for kids who just don’t fit into team sports. Kids who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It’s something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars.

We have classes for kids as young as 3, and as old as teenagers. Martial arts is the kind of thing that grows with you. So as kids get older, they learn new techniques, perfect old ones, and advance. When they’re younger, it’s more about fun and games, with learning thrown in too.

Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our kids martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much “stronger and tougher,” but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!
